NOTATIONS #2 was a interdisciplinary laboratory and festival organized by HOSQ in Armenia in July and August 2026. The second edition focused on Rituals, exploring ritual as a method for thinking about time, transition and collective experience
Bringing together artists, musicians, performers and researchers, the laboratory was structured around collaborative practice, workshops, collective sessions and the development of new works, which were later presented during the two-day festival at the Armenian State Philharmonia, National Gallery and ArmeniaFilmStudio
During NOTATIONS2 I began by thinking about ritual as a structure for transition.
I came to define a ritual as an algorithm for performing an action: a repeatable structure or instruction that initiates a predictable transformation from one state to another, either within a subject or in the relationship between subjects and objects.
This became connected to a more personal question: what kinds of rituals can help my transitions between states? I often remain within one mode of attention or activity for a long time, and changing states can require a deliberate structure. In this sense, ritual can function as a protocol for transition.
Main Stage Set
For the festival I joined the group working on the main stage installation.
The spatial structure consisted of suspended fabric activated by light. I developed an audio-reactive projection for the installation, responding to the live sound and continuously changing the visual state of the fabric.
The projection became part of the stage environment rather than a separate screen-based work. Light, sound, projection and the physical movement of the material operated together as one changing system.
Memory Fragment: Villa 3
During the laboratory I continued my ongoing practice of spatial scanning.
One of the scans became a Memory Fragment made during a Round Robin session at Villa 3 in Dilijan. The fragment preserves a particular configuration of people, bodies, furniture and space during a temporary collective situation.

Over the last two years, scanning has gradually become a kind of ritual in my practice. Repeating the same process in different places creates a personal method of recording spatial memory.
Philharmonia Scan
I also scanned the Philharmonia in Dilijan.
A fragment of the scan was later printed in the NOTATIONS #2 zine.

The same scan became the basis for Philharmonia Dream, a VR work in which the viewer moves through the scanned architecture while listening to approximately twenty minutes of recordings from improvised music sessions made during the laboratory.
The work combines a spatial record of the building with a temporal record of the people who temporarily inhabited it.
